A fantastic weekend of football, friendship and socialising was had between teams from East Algarve FC (EAFC), SC Farense from Faro and Estepona in Spain.
Some great football was played over the two days, with EAFC having a solid first day of matches, winning three and drawing one. EAFC’s midfield pair of captain Mark Cruddace and Ian Shaw were outstanding throughout the weekend, Our Italian maestro Paolo Turni was also turning back the years with some great goals and hard work. The games were all competitive with points being won by all teams, but East Algarve were too strong in the end for the visitors from Spain and Faro. Estepona beat East Algarve FC in the opener on the second day and finished the day with a very spirited effort with striker Darren Mortimer netting a number of goals for the visitors.
Hosts East Algarve FC were the overall winners, with the talented Estepona team runners up and Farense finishing third.
The Estepona team were staying in Cabanas and a meal after the game in Tavira was followed by a lively night out on the Saturday in Cabanas. Following the presentations all the Estepona squad and East Algarve team went for some more refreshments at Nuno’s bar, Fanu in Tavira. There was even a celebrity double act for the weekend with Mick McManus and Frank Carson (AKA Jim and Len) keeping everyone entertained.
Everyone enjoyed the tournament and excellent comradery, with a return visit to Spain to be arranged.
Thank you to everyone for their support, commitment and enthusiasm and to both Estepona and Farense for coming to play EAFC in Tavira.
